Term Position: Immediately to March 31, 2021 (with potential to renew) Designation Status: This opportunity is designated to applicants that identify as African Nova Scotian or other racially visible Nova Scotians. This is an employment partnership between the NS Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage (Communities, Sport and Recreation Division) & Recreation Nova Scotia. Scope: The Regional Physical Activity Consultant will be responsible for providing support and leadership to address inactivity by contributing to improvements in population levels of physical activity and a culture of movement within the Central Region of Nova Scotia. This position will support regional opportunities and contribute to the priorities of the Let's Get Moving strategy for Nova Scotia. Responsibilities include: To improve the capacity of organizations, communities and leaders to create and implement policies and practices that support population level changes to physical activity and movement; provide quality advice, support, funding opportunities and assistance to expand the skills and knowledge in the region; enable, support and provide leadership on the development, implementation and evaluation of whole of community strategies to advance physical activity; encourage and support linkages, partnerships and multi-sectorial collaborations among stakeholders; assist and/or facilitate initiatives that improve social, physical and policy environments to enable physical activity and movement in key settings and seek to improve the diversity of Nova Scotians participating in physical activity, sport and recreation; grant administration; contribute to innovative and result-oriented regional initiatives to improve physical activity levels for all; provide leadership on regional contributions to advancing provincial strategies including the priorities of Let's Get Moving. Education and Experience: A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three years' experience or an acceptable equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Skills and Knowledge: Planning and evaluation; promotion and communications; facilitation and public presentation skills; knowledge of adult education principles; relationship and partnership building; program development; analytical skills; ability to search and apply literature/research on effective physical activity interventions; ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently. Capacity to research and share national, provincial and regional physical activity trends, issues, statistics, and promising practices; understanding of community development principles; knowledge of inclusion and access; ability to apply best practices working in cross cultural situations; knowledge of the recreation, sport and physical activity delivery systems in the province. Compensation: Based upon a salary scale ranging from $49,220 to $60,776 depending on experience. The position is hosted by Recreation Nova Scotia with funding provided by the NS Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage (CCH). The consultant will be based in the CCH offices in Halifax. Term: To start as soon as possible until March 31, 2021 with potential to renew.
